IMPORTANT!

Before outputting from InDesign CS2 the default setting for Appearance of Black MUST be changed from the default setting. The correct setting for Printing/Exporting should be: Output All Blacks Accurately.

To change this preference select Appearance of Black from the InDesign CS2 Preferences pull down menu.

Change the Printing/Exporting option to: Output All Blacks Accurately

Changing the On Screen option to: Display all Blacks Accurately is optional but recommended.

Note: Check Overprint black swatch at 100% only if you want all instances of solid black to overprint. If you want black elements to knockout uncheck this option. Black overprint is then controlled from the Windows > Attributes pallet.

PC InDesign CS2 - Building the document

Page files must be set up to the trim size of the publication.

The example shown is for a publication with a final trim size of 8.125" X 10.875"

All images and elements that bleed should be extended at least 1/8" (.125").

All colors that are used in the document that are NOT running as spot colors on press must be set to CMYK by changing the Color Mode to CMYK.

All colors that are used in the document that ARE running as spot colors on press must be setup as Color Mode to Spot Color.

All colors that are not used in the document should be deleted from the color palette.

PC InDesign CS2 - Setting up a Print Preset:

An InDesign Print Preset is a capture of all of the settings you would normally enter manually in the Print Dialog menu. By taking the time now to set up a Print Preset it will allow you to quickly produce consistent output every time.

To set this up you will next download a preset template and customize it to your own specifications.

Note: Before setting up a print preset be sure to install the Prinergy Refiner ppd file. See the Getting Started

Step 1

Download one of the following Print Preset Templates.
NOTE:only download the Ad Management Template if the DSC is swapping high res ad files for placement files in your document. Contact your TSA if you have any questions

  • Launch Adobe InDesign CS2
  • Choose File > Print Presets > Define

  • In the Print Presets Menu click Load

  • Locate and select the Print Preset template that you downloaded in Step 1
  • Click Open

  • From the Print Presets window highlight the Preset Template
  • Click Edit

  • Name the Preset to indicate the final trim size of the pages.
  • In this example the trim size is 8.125 x 10.875

On the Edit Print Presets / Setup Tab / Paper Size:

  • Set the Width and Height to 1" larger than your trim size.
  • In this example our trim size is 8.125" x 10.875" so we made the Paper size 9.125" x 11.875".
  • This will allow for all bleed, crop and registration to be in the file.
  • Click OK

  • Click OK on the Print Presets window
  • Note: if you want to use this print preset on other computers you can click save to save a preset that can be imported.
  • You know have successfully configured your Print Preset

PC InDesign CS2 - Writing a PostScript file:

Step 1
  • Open the document that you wish to make PDF's from.
  • Select File > Print Presets > Your Preset

In the Print dialog menu:

  • Enter the page number that you wish to make a PDF. Note: Create single page PDF's
  • Click Save

  • Name the PostScript file
  • See File Naming Guidelines
  • If you are using a Distiller Watched folder, select the In folder as the destination for the saved postscript file.
  • Select Save
  • Distiller will automatically process your postscript file and produce a PDF with RRD settings. Note: Make sure Distiller is running
  • Open your PDF and preview to ensure that is accurate before uploading it to InSite.
